Warranty does not cover anything on phone
I got a Sony Xperia Z1 on contract the 1st of Jan 2014. I handed in the phone in the month of June 2014 because the touchscreen was not working properly. MTN assessed the phone and gave it back saying nothing was wrong with the phone. I gave in my phone for the same problem in the month of March 2015 for the same problem as it was not resolved, only this time I had R5000 water damage to my waterproof phone. The phone is still under warranty with MTN, but now I have to either pay R5000 to have my phone fixed, or pay them R330 for an assessment. When I queried this the branch told me, the policy on repairs changed a month ago, I have to pay the fee. Now I believe this is a money making scheme, seeing that I pay almost R500 per month for my phone. If the phone does have water damage it needs to be replaced or fixed as it would be a fault on the unit. This phone is a business phone, was a business phone as I haven't had it for a month now. I will not pay the fees demanded by MTN as this unit is still under warranty. I cannot get hold of MTN service centre on a phone as nobody answers a telephone at MTN because of high call volumes.

Kindly note that the Handset is Water Resistant - not Water Proof, so too much Water will damage the Handset, if the panel was not closed properly or damaged - that would be physical damage. which voids any form of warranty as set out by the Manufacturer and the Repair Centre is guided by the Manufacturer's warranty guidelines.
Kindly note that every cell phone has at least one \Liquid damage indicator\" that you can see. Most have additional indicators inside the device that only a technician can see. Liquid damage does not only refer to water damage but to other things such exposure to any form of moisture including body sweats
