Warranty assessment inconsistency

I sent in my 2 month old iPhone XS for repair after a portion of the screen began to malfunction and locked me out of my phone. I had barely used the phone in the two months as I was waiting to purchase a cover, which I did about a week after having the phone.

After some back and forth trips between the store and the high value repair centre I am being told now that my phone has failed it’s warranty assessment due to a dent in the camera lens. Note, my camera functioned perfectly and have dozens of picture to prove this, the phone was never dropped or damaged. The initial booking form noted no defects on phone on inspection by the store consultant. As per the warranty I was informed that factory defects result in You getting a new phone replacing your defective one. Upon calling the repair centre they i formed me that I will be getting back a second hand refurbished phone as a replacement.

I think it both exceptionally unfair that I am to get someone’s refurbished hand me downs. I have no idea what faults this phone is coming with or who has used it before me and what for.

It is absolutely unreasonable that MTN expect people to keep their phones in box quality for the first six months. In that instance I may as well not use my phone and have no need for the warranty at all. Micro scratches are part of wear and tear. A simple act of placing my phone on a table could result in a scratch. It’s unreasonable that a phone can fail a warranty assessment because someone used a microscope and found a scratch somewhere on the phone. Even if the grounds for a dent in the camera, that is inconsistent with the defect. Moreso it’s unfair that I’m being forced to accept a second hand phone because of this.

Hi Renall Still getting the run around. The gentleman Martin has been assisting me but he’s not getting feedback from the repair centre. They aren’t answering his calls for some reason. I’ve also been given feedback that the repair centre will make the decision on the way forward, and that my original phone will be sent for another warranty assessment. Today marks 2months that I have been without my phone. The phone I’m still being billed for. A two month old phone with what appears to be a factory screen defect (that a consultant at the store says he has seen before with that particular phone), and I’m still being told I may need to accept a secondhand refurbished phone in its stead. I don’t think is in any way fair and I’m really disappointed in the customer service. I’ve been with MTN for several years and honestly I don’t think I’d ever want to take out further business with the establishment of this is how business is conducted.
