Very bad service indeed

After having my phone ****** on Thursday 26th March in a smash and grab, I contacted the Mtn call centre to block the phone, which they said they could not assist with because they were going into lockdown...this was at 4pm! The agent was rude and pointed out that there were more important things to do than to help me block my ****** device!!. He advised me to go into a mtn store near me with my police case number as I had explained to him that I had reported the incident to the SAPS. I then proceeded to go to the N1City store in Goodwood. It was already closed at 5pm!! They are normally open till 7pm.

He also proceeded to say they would not be able to assist with a sim swap despite me being an essential services worker and my phone is an integral part of providing the essential service during the lockdown period.

I sent numerous emails to the call centre and finally had response from Thembisile who advised that he had temporarily blocked the device. I was told to go in store to have a SIM swap done. I tried the Mtn outlets in my area and informed the call centre that they were closed. At no point was I advised that I needed to go to the Canal Walk store which was the only store open during this lockdown and which would have resolved the issue. Today I received a callback from a missed call I made to an mtn outlet number out of desperation to get some help, however I was advised that the Canal Walk store is now no longer open as of yesterday and that there is absolutely no chance of having a sim swap done.

How is it possible that as an essential service provider I am unable to get connected on my contract sim in order to provide the service, when I contacted them the day before lockdown and they refused to help me telephonically and the store was closed before all the other stores in the mall!!

Shocking service from MTN.

Where's the support for essential service citizens needing their telephone for essential communication during this time.

Shame on you MTN for leaving an essential service provider without the means to support the country at this crucial time.

That is just not good enough! Surely you can put something in place temporarily to accommodate customers in this situation. EVERYTHING is done online nowadays. Courier services are still running so I don't see a problem in getting the SIM delivered. My ID should already be on your systems so I do not see what the problem is.
