Unsolicited SMS'S, no opt out or stop option without calling MTN

Dear MTN,

Please assist MTN customers from opting out of unsolicited promotional SMS's (after recharging AND otherwise) by giving us the option of replying to the unwanted SMS's with "stop" or "opt out", as is required from you in terms of legislation.

I now had to call your call centre and spent unnecessary time to explain the situation to one of your call centre agents. I did, eventually, obtain the code *130*603#. After dialing it, I was informed that my request to opt out of promotional SMS's after recharging has been submitted.

I do not only want to opt out of SMS's after recharging, I want to opt out of ALL UNSOLICITED, UNIMPORTANT SMS'S.

My written communication to your email address has gone unanswered.

Please rectify this situation and provide me with feedback.

Good day Alice, thank you for the response. The SMS's I am receiving on a daily basis are most definitely from MTN, they read as follows: "Save BIG on Standard Data Rates of 99c/MB by buying a 7day 50MB bundle for R10! Dial *141*2*19311# or go to the MTN App http://1app.mtn.co.za/dls/sma now! TsCs." I get the aforesaid SMS every single day at 09h30 and it is extremely frustrating. In addition, after dialing *130*603# to opt out of promotional recharge SMS's, I STILL received unsolicited SMS's from MTN. Kindly convey my frustration (and I am sure many other MTN customers' frustration) to your legal department, as the failure to opt out of your unsolicited communications is ******** in terms of South African legislation. Regards, Carina
