******** Business Practices
Hi; I took out a MTN Data Contract on the 12th of May 2021 at MTN Brooklyn. The lady helping me was very friendly and assisted me. However, I noticed that there are 2 unknown to me nrs linked to the nr I was given by MTN for a brand-new Data Contract. I contacted the lady that first assisted me last week, and she said there is nothing showing on her system of any nrs linked to my account. I then went to MTN Kollenade, and the guy assisting me showed me that he can't see any nrs linked to my account. I therefore went back to MTN Brooklyn today, and the lady helping me confirmed that my nr is actually a recycled nr, and belonged to the lady who owns the other 2 active nrs that is linked to my account. I then told her that I did not authorize any nrs to be linked to my account as somebody else is also using my data. She logged a request on her system and said it will take between 7 to 14 days to get feedback as to whether they can remove the other two linked nrs from my account. I then asked her to speak to the manager, and I was told that the manager is not in today, and will only be back tomorrow, and also that the manager will not be able to do anything from her side except logging a request on their system to remove the other two numbers from my account. I then asked if they can please give me another nr / simcard seeing as this was an error on their side, and the reply was if they give me another simcard / number I have to pay the R250 plus fee for the new card / number. I then asked her how this can be seeing as I never authorised any other number to be linked to my account and seeing as MTN did not ensure that my nr was cleared from the previous owner's details, how can they now tell me that I have to pay again to get another nr and also why they cannot just deactivate this number and give me a new one? She just told me that is the rules and I have to wait for feedback, and hope that she will in fact call me back with the results. And in the meantime the other linked nrs can have a ball with my data as is currently the case. And should my limit be reached, I must just pay the extra money while MTN just pull up their shoulders and say there is nothing else they can do??? I am sorry, but the fact that there was two linked nrs on my account when they gave me my "new" nr, and now they can just log a request and I must hope that they will be able to remove the other two linked nrs! When I make a mistake in my business when dealing with a customer, I acknowledge my mistake and sort it out without asking the client to pay for my mistake, now MTN just shrug their shoulders and say they will see if the linked nrs can be removed from my nr??? I don't agree and I think that is very poor and bad business practice from MTN's side.
