******** and ********** subscriptions.

I have been a client with MTN for the past 6 years and have only experienced joy for the the first two years. I have uncapped data line with MTN and my premium is R311.00 per month. When I wanted to upgrade after the first 24 months, I was unable to do so because the contract was discontinued. Soon after this, my debit order was not going off anymore and I had to go to a MTN branch to make manual payments.

In September 2017, I received a statement for the absurd amount of roughly R4 800.00. I called the call centre on 26 September and spoke to a lady called Vanessa. I was upset and wanted to confirm how this is possible. She then confirmed that I have adult content subscriptions on my data contract. I asked how this is possible and she wanted to confirm if I am the only person using the internet, whereby I confirmed that my husband also uses the internet at home. Her reaction is unforgiving, she only rep**** with an "oh" insinuating that my husband subscribed to these sites. Now all of a sudden my debit order was active again. I called the bank and returned the debit order as I will not pay for something that we did not do. I am only liable for the monthly premium of R311.00 and not a cent more.

I was furious and requested to speak to her manager. She transferred me to Nerisha and she assisted to cancel the ******** subscriptions. Nerisha confirmed that she will send me a itemized billing statement to confirm where these subscriptions were sent to. I am still waiting for this statement. The reference number for this call was ********** 11.

On 12 October, I called again as MTN keeps on deducting absurd amounts from my bank account. I spoke to Yusuf. He promised that I will have my itemized billing statement within the next 72 hours. Once again, it is January 2018 and I have received nothing. The reference number for this call is ********** 29.

I called again on 25 October 2017. Still no itemized billing.

I went to an MTN branch and requested to cancel my contract; the agent confirmed that I cannot cancel. How is this even possible??

In the meantime, MTN keeps on deducting absurd amounts. I will keep on reversing these amounts at the bank as I have stated before.

I will not be held liable for adult content subscriptions. In the past six years, there were no such subscriptions, why now all of a sudden. MTN staff has no manners whatsoever by implying that my husband subscribed to these sites. I received another invoice stating that an amount of roughly R6 200.00 will deduct. I will not pay this amount. According to my understanding, due to the fact that I did not upgrade, the contract will run month to month. I have not used my internet for the past 3 months and will never use it again. I want to cancel and break all ties to a company that insults their clients and participates in ********** subscriptions.

Should this matter not be resolved, my next step will be the Ombudsman for telecommunications as well as the media.
