Unhappy client

My name is Thandi Ndhlovu from Witbank Mpumalanga, I accompanied my mom to mtn highveld mall to get her a router contract but we were turned back because they claim my mom is still using the green bar coded ID and they need a smart card ID. My concern is that I wasn't aware as a citizen of South Africa that the green bar coded id's are no no longer valid?
