Unfair blacklisting from MTN

I took an iPhone 11 contract in November 2020, with the first debit order scheduled for 15 December 2020. However, the payment was not processed. Assuming it would go through the following month, I waited until 15 January 2021, but once again, no deduction was made. Concerned about this issue, I visited MTN store at Mall of the North to inquire.

At the store, I was initially informed that the issue might be due to insufficient funds. However, after attempting a manual payment, the staff discovered that four customers were sharing the same account number (hence my due payment then was R5000). A call was logged to resolve the issue, but no further action was taken. I later visited the Greenstone MTN store, where the same issue was identified, yet no resolution was provided.

Subsequently, I contacted MTN customer care, and while they activated the debit order, they failed to address the root cause of the problem. As a result, an incorrect debit order of R15,000 was attempted, which inevitably failed, as my actual monthly installment was less than R1,000. Despite my repeated efforts to resolve this matter through emails and store visits, no corrective action was taken, and my account was unfairly handed over to legal representatives. I refused to pay via lawyers as i was not at fault, and i was net getting the contract benefits such as data and airtime as part of the contract.

I kindly request MTN to:

Reverse any legal actions taken due to MTN’s internal error.

Correct my account status and ensure that my credit record is restored.

I have email records detailing my previous attempts to resolve this matter and can provide further documentation if required. I would appreciate urgent attention to this issue and a prompt response regarding the steps being taken to rectify the situation. This situation has not only caused undue stress but has also negatively impacted my credit record, preventing me from taking future contracts with MTN.
