Unexpected "Contents Charge" on Mtn invoice for "Opera Telecoms"

An amount of R48.29 appeared on Mtn's invoice no. E ********** 36 in respect of a "Contents Charge".

On dialling the no. given to me by Mtn, viz. *141*5# , I get the message "currently not subscribed to any content services"

On querying this with Mtn Customer Care , they tell me that it is a subscription charge to "Opera Telecoms" initiated by my phone and invoiced on Mtn's invoice.

I have never heard of "Opera Telecoms", let alone subscribed to them!

Mtn say they cannot do anything about it as it is my problem (and yet Mtn invoiced me).

Mtn did provide me with Opera Telecoms phone no., but, on dialling it just gives an out-of-order signal.

I have written to the following people in management, but have had no response:

Godfrey Motsa - Chief Executive Officer

Philiswe Sibiya - Chief Financial Officer

Enzo Scarcella - Chief Operating Officer

Larry Annetts - Chief Communications Officer

Tim Lowry - Managing Director

It seems that the rot starts at the top!

Mtn advises that "You may use the following USSD code to block the content service providers: *141* 5 # select option written content billing."

There is no option "written content billing." !

More smokescreens?
