"Unemployed, but Asked to Pay First? MTN and MBD's Unsympathetic Approach"

I have recently experienced a series of fruitless exchanges with both MTN and their debt collector, MBD, which has left me utterly frustrated and disillusioned. As an individual who has been unemployed for over a year and a half, struggling to meet basic financial obligations, I reached out to MTN in hopes of arranging a payment plan for an outstanding debt. However, what followed was a bewildering journey through their convoluted system, marked by incompetence and insensitivity.

Despite assurances from MTN's representatives that a payment arrangement would be established, nothing materialized. Instead, my account was unceremoniously handed over to MBD, leaving me in the dark about who to contact regarding my predicament. What ensued was a maze of transfers between departments and agents, each passing the buck and offering no real solutions.

When I finally managed to ascertain that MBD was the assigned debt collector, I was confronted with an absurd demand. They insisted that I make three consecutive payments before even considering issuing a payment arrangement letter—a letter crucial for my potential employment prospects.

Let me emphasize my situation: I am an unemployed single mother, struggling to make ends meet. I am on the brink of securing a job, a lifeline that would enable me to honor my financial obligations, including the debt owed to MTN. Yet, instead of showing empathy and understanding, both MTN and MBD have chosen to adopt a rigid and heartless stance.

In what world does it make sense to demand payments from someone who is currently without income, effectively impeding their chances of securing employment? The demand for three consecutive payments before issuing a mere confirmation of an arrangement is not only nonsensical but downright cruel.

This ordeal has been nothing short of a nightmare—a Kafkaesque journey through bureaucratic incompetence and corporate indifference. Despite repeatedly highlighting the urgency of my situation, I have been met with indifference and apathy.

I implore MTN and MBD to reconsider their approach and show compassion towards customers facing financial hardship. A payment arrangement letter should serve as a lifeline for individuals striving to rebuild their lives, not as an obstacle preventing them from doing so.

In conclusion, my experience with MTN and MBD has been nothing short of appalling. The system is broken, and it is high time for a fundamental reevaluation of their practices. As I continue to navigate this ordeal, I can only hope that my plight serves as a wake-up call for both companies to prioritize empathy and understanding over profit margins.

This level of disregard for customers' circumstances is utterly unacceptable, and I urge others to exercise caution when dealing with MTN and its affiliated debt collectors.
