Unauthorized debit order

I emigrated in January 2016, and during this time I cancelled my MTN contract. The outstanding amount was paid in full, and for 5 months everything went well.

Then, on 31 May 2016, I saw that there has been a debit order made from my South African bank account by MTN. I found this strange, since the contract was paid off in full, and the contract was cancelled in writing, where the written letter with regards to this was handed in at the local MTN branch at Brooklyn Mall.

A family member was asked to go to the bank, and to immediately reverse the debit order, as well as make contact with MTN Brooklyn with regards to this matter. Off course, no one at the MTN branch was able to explain this or assist further with this matter. Problem solving and providing solutions are apparently not part of customer service anymore.

I myself also sent an email to the MTN customer help care on 1 June 2016 (***), hoping to have a reply with regards to this matter in due course. After nine days, I am currently still waiting for a reply. I realize there is a difference in time zones, but it definitely does not span a period of 9 days.

I would like to know the following: why was a debit order made from my bank account, after the account has been paid in full, and the contract was cancelled in writing? Should I be concerned that this will happen again? Reference numbers of course are provided with every complaint made, but how many reference numbers are to be accummulated before one is actually assisted with helpful solutions?

Problems do arise, but it is how a company response that will leave them with or without a customer for future. Especially if a company is the root cause of the problem.
