Unauthorised disconnection of my phone after I had raised ********** transactions on it.
I realised on Tuesday 17th May 2022 that there was something wrong when a debit order of R7579.93 was deducted from my bank Account. As I pay no more that R800 per month (as can be seen from previous month statements), I immediately called the MTN call centre. After checking The lady told me that a charge from R5822.62 was deducted for Self Service Purchase. I stated that I have not purchased anything from MTN other than additional airtime or data bundles. The last time I upgraded was in early 2017. When I questioned how this deduction was possible as I had a limit of deduction for MTN on my bank account, she could not answer. The lady then asked me if I had received any call from a person stating that they work for MTN and if I gave an OTP, I stated that I had received a call in April from a lady asking if I authorised a pin swop for my number for Mr Jacobs, he was apparently in an MTN branch in Pretoria, I stated that I did not. She then stated that she has sent me an OTP number to stop all transactions and that I must repeat the number to her. The telephone number and OTP number showed up as from MTN. I told her that I did not authorise anything and want any transactions in this regard to stop. I cannot remember when this was as I had cleaned my phone recently. I got a reference number *** at 21h18 on 17th May 2022. When I informed her that I was going to have the debit order returned, I was informed that it will reflect badly on my credit record. I stated that I will pay R798, either at the MTN branch, or online as this is what I have paid for the last three months at least. On Wednesday Morning 18th May 2022 I had the debit order reversed at a cost of R40.00. This reference number was subsequently closed, and I was issued with a new reference number***. I also sent an email to MTN stating the concern. I requested an itemised billing to be sent to me, for me to check the dates of when this self-purchase had gone through, but as of today, this is still outstanding. Yesterday I received a message to state that reference number*** had been closed. When I checked my outstanding balance on the MTN app it shows R8431.90was still outstanding., I have subsequently paid the R798 as promised, I had also queried why my value points show a zero balance when it should be around 20 000. This was apparently also used during the ********** transactions, this has been rectified, and thank you.
I was requested to send a letter with certified copies of Id, which I sent this afternoon. I then got a message to say my order was confirmed, once again I did not order anything. My number has been blocked, I cannot put air time on as the bank says I need to talk to my provider. I use my cell phone for business and am expecting work to come in.
Please investigate the ********** transactions, I have had my account with MTN for more that 24 years, I have never defaulted on paying my account and now it has cost me money to reverse a faulty debit order.
