Too late for an apology
I should have seen the signs that it's not going to end well. June started with me logging a despute at ASASA(Advertising Standards Authority of South Africa) because MTN sold me a contract without the device available but advertised as available from 1st June (Samsung A6+) and I was told to pick a different handset. 1st of July I picked up my new Samsung A6+ with a promise that the 1st month of my contract with MTN will be free, but to my surprise, end of July my bank account was debited, I then reversed the debit order and contacted Mr Garnet Matsoso on email which he never responded to but acknowledged receipt and then on the 8th of August I went to MTN Northgate to return the phone with all accessories and instructed Itumeleng to cancel my contract and return my number back to prepaid since MTN is dishonest, they didn't do so, instead thats when they started requesting some top official's permission to credit my account. End of August I still received a statement from MTN that shows I owe them 1st month subscription plus the 2nd month subscription of which I have tried to cancel the contract. I logged a case with the Ombudsmen, they quickly responded and said they updated the account with some bogus statement that indicated 1st month subscription cleared and instructed the ombudsmen to immediately close the case since according to them all is sorted, come end of August, my bank account was debited with the 1st month subscription plus the 2nd month subscription. I didnt waste time, I reversed the debit order again. All this means I am also getting charged unnecessary bank charges. I instructed the Ombudsmen to request a cancellation fee from MTN and almost 3 weeks later I haven't received any response(delay tactics). Atleast yesterday(10 Sep 2018) services on my MTN number have been suspended. All these is happening, MTN has not even contacted me to explain their actions or an apology, not even once. Is this how you treat your customers MTN... I am simply going to look for another service provider. Just cancel my contract already and keep your phone.
