Theft of airtime by subscribing you to services you did not request

I am on MTN prepaid and due to the fact that I am retired, I almost never use my cell phone to make outgoing calls on the cellular network and only purchase airtime as and when required. Early last month I get an SMS telling me to recharge my account in order to "continue using your subscription service to InConcert at R3.00/24 hrs". I check my account and notice that about R150's worth of airtime has disappeared. I dial *155# and see that I am subscribed to this “InConcert” service which I NEVER subscribed to. Due to previous bad experiences with MTN customer care, I did not bother to challenge them on my money that was ****** but instead cancel the subscription, write off the ****** money and buy more airtime (less this time).

This morning I get an SMS from MTN thanking me for “subscribing to Hungama Play - daily at R5.00/day”. I am not senile and once again did NOT subscribe to any service, as a matter of fact I barely touched my phone the last couple of days other than looking at notifications. I cancelled the service immediately.

Needless to say, I needed a couple of hours to cool down before writing this review otherwise it might have been difficult to make any sense of the content between the swearwords. MTN, be aware, if this happens once more you lose a loyal customer who has been with you for more than 20 years as this is nothing other than ***** and theft to subscribe someone to a service they do not intend to use and did not request.

I am literate, not senile and has an IQ of more than 10. I can read an SMS, I know how to search the web and therefore can work out for myself how to cancel subscriptions that MTN **********ly subscribe me to which I did. The fact that I am literate and worked in IT for more than 30 years means that I will never subscribe to anything “accidentally” which I have seen on a number of forums is being used by MTN as an excuse.
Instead of insulting my intelligence by telling me how to unsubscribe from subscriptions, you can stop subscribing your clients to services they do not wish to use and then ***** their money when they are not vigilant enough to pick up that they are being ****med by MTN.
As a matter of fact, I have searched through my messages and did not find anything that informed me that I was subscribed to this “InConcert” thing other than telling me to top-up my airtime in order to keep on using it.
If MTN had any ethics you would pay back the money that you have ****** from me.
