the danger of sim swap using MTN platform

the sim swap procedure and processes taken place at MTN. during the beginning of lock down in south Africa this year, i had a problem with my phone which resulted to the damage to my sim card. as a results of the regulation i called the MTN to report the matter of my sim card as the phone could read the sim card.

i was advised by the caller that, i need to buy the new card and do sim swap. i indicated to the caller that i will only be able to out if i feel its necessary taking account the safety measures.

after some time, i managed to buy the sim card and called the MTN to do the sim swap and to my shock the number was given to someone else and all my banking sms were still going through to that person.

i need to point out that, there is no measures in place at mtn to protect the privacy of information to *******'s activities.

the shock again came after minutes after putting the same new sim card i bought to do sim swap as i received the correspondence of the previous owner even the calls.

the frustrating thing about the issue is knowing that fact that we live in the world were people information is used for ******* purpose and yet we have institutions like MTN who really don't care about the issue.

even after calling them, they still don't see the wrong about their action
