The Customer`s guide to hitchhike past the MTN Galaxy

After approximately 28 years as an MTN business customer, managing between 4 to 6 mobile lines under a business package, I was contacted by MTN representatives from various regions (Johannesburg, Woodlands Centre Pretoria, Durban, Cape Town, etc.), persistently pushing for contract renewals on two of my existing lines.

Background: I hold an exemplary credit score and maintain a spotless payment history with MTN and all other credit providers, business and personal alike. I have never missed a payment in nearly three decades.

Despite submitting all the required documentation (RICA, financials, bank statements, and credit vetting materials), I was eventually contacted by a representative named Ashwin from MTN Woodlands, who claimed my contract renewals were declined due to a “bad credit rating”, a fabrication completely detached from reality. My excess monthly income is in the region of R32,000, with no adverse listings, judgments, or defaults.

Following this, I filed a formal complaint under reference ece325a3-b0ab-4***-ec0bee9d24a1. True to form, MTN failed to respond for more than a calendar month.

No explanation, no apology, no action.

So, I voted with my feet. I accepted a competitive, efficient offer from Vodacom, a provider that, so far, understands what professionalism and customer value actually mean.

Ironically, only after terminating my long-standing MTN contracts did the floodgates of hollow apologies and “investigations” open. Too little, far too late.

And to Ashwin and MTN: No, the door didn’t hit me on the way out. I closed it. Firmly.
