TAKING AWAY YOUR MTN NUMBER WITHOUT TELLING YOU

My daughter-in-law has been in Englnd for the last 2 years and she has been using her MTN phone for WhatsApps all this time. She is now back in South Africa, and loaded R1,000 into the phone, but this did not arrive on the phione.. She has discovered that MTN gave her number to someone else without telling her, and refuses to reimbursre the R1,000. It is disgraceful that MTN has taken away her number without telling her. Obviously she assumed that the number was still hers as the WhatsApps has been working all this time.
