Tactics to prevent cancelation

I took out a data contract in 2021 for my grandmother, who is in a retirement village. A couple of months later, I moved abroad and continued to pay the contract each month as that was how my grandmother was able to communicate with me.

In November 2023 my fixed contract came to an end and went over to a month to month, however the month to month contract was almost double the price and I decided to rather cancel the contract. I send numerous emailes asking to cancel at the end of November 2023, then end of December 2023, in January 2024, February 2024 and March 2024.

I eventually got a email saying if I make that one final payment they will cancel the contract. So I made the payment and by the end of April I got another email saying I have to pay my account so I emailed again saying that my contract was supposed to end the previous month and they said if I pay this account they will cancel the account. So again I made payment and they never canceled my account. The is going on and we are now in July and the contract is still not cancel. I am getting the impression that this is just a tactic of them not canceling the contract to continue to get money out of you each month.

I have tried to phone them but it costed me R180 for 15mins on the line, because it's an international call.

I regret taking out the contract in the first place. Their assistance over email is terrible. But quick to respond if you owe them money or if you want to upgrade.
