Sudden huge data bill after 48 months

I have been a MTN customer since 2012 on a 2GB data bundle. My monthly bill has been R125, all of a sudden I get debited R4200 on 1April. I have exceeded my 2GB and I have been charged out of bundle usage. I tried to cancel the contract, but was told I need to give a months notice and they bill me again. Instead the retention agent suggests I convert to pay as you go which can be done immediately. Then my troubles really started and after numerous calls and emails I still have not got a breakdown of my data usage and the exactly the rate I was charged out of bundle. In over 4 years I have never gone out of bundle as according to me it was a capped usage deal. I was rudely told it is an open account and MTN did not see fit to inform me as my credit limit is R12k...really on a R125 monthly contract? Very suspicious that all of a sudden I have an open account when my payment history clearly shows only the agreed and contracted rate of R125.

This week after 23 minutes online I was promised by a customer center supervisor that I will have my detailed breakdown by today, of course I have received nothing. I was told no further debits will go off my account, I am waiting for the surprise on the 1st. I will be taking this further ( Appelbaum vs Vodacom) as I also believe MTN acted ********ly . I have mailed the Onbudsman too, but I don't expect resolution there. The longer MTN fails to provide me a breakdown of what they billed me for out of bundle usage, the stronger my case.

MTN customer service is not user friendly, the agents have no ability to provide resolution and are very defensive and quiet rude when pressed for answers, making me believe this is an ongoing and continuous issue they are dealing with , with other customers they have **********.

Reviewer Update

Since receiving a phone call from a very pleasant and friendly Alice van der Merwe, I have still not received the itemized billing report from MTN so that I am able to see how much data I used and what I was charged for it. I have been busy trying to get these details since 3 April.
