Subscription fee deductions made without consent or unknowingly
My mom is a 73 year pensioner with a MTN unlimited data contract which has a fixed subscription and a small extra limit, which she took out when they were still available. The last few months her account was more than triple what it is supposed to and far exceeded the limit. The local MTN office could not give answers and after numerous call and emails and promises made that all subscriptions were stopped and that no subscriptions would be allowed in the future, there are new ones being deducted per day. The contact numbers the MTN help desk consultant provided, to arrange a refund, do not exist. My mom does not understand all the technical term and even though she has told them numerous times to contact me, my details are even on her online account, they still refuse to consult me, and have caused her to have an epileptic attack due to their stress and they still had the cheek to phone her twice after the attack after I requested them to please not contact her, as she is not well.
The problem is, she is a pensioner and these ******* subscriptions which MTN allow, are taking her pension money and MTN don't give a damn and also have no consideration for her health. Even the consultants working at MTN use Vodacom because of the hidden subscriptions on MTN which waste your data. Make you think!
This is unfair practice as no contract is signed or made verbally and there are so many people complaining about it, but MTN don't care to do anything because I suppose they also get a share in the subscriptions.
Good day,
Thank you for taking time to raise your concerns with MTN. Note that we are unable to investigate this matter without the customers details and her consent to discuss the matter with you.
With the above said, Our subscriber terms and conditions do not make specific reference to content charges. MTN enters into contractual relationship with WASP’s (Wireless Application Service Providers), and acts as an “enabler” to the WASP’s by making the network platform available and providing a payment gateway. In addition MTN requires that such WASP’s be members of WASPA in an effort to bring about a self-regulatory measure. MTN does not have relationships with the content providers, they however have direct relationships with the WASP who aggregates such content on their behalf.
For any dispute regarding Wasp content subscription/ deductions, please lodge a complaint directly with Waspa either via www.waspa.org.za or on ***.
