Subject: Unfair Billing Practices by MTN
Dear Hello Peter Team,
I'm writing to express my frustration and disappointment with MTN's billing practices. I had a 24-month data contract with MTN, which ended in April 2023. However, MTN continued sending me invoices, claiming I owed them money.
When I questioned the invoices, MTN stated that my contract automatically converted to a month-to-month contract after the initial 12 months, despite our agreement being for 24 months. I informed them that I was cancelling the contract in June/July, and they provided a reference number. Yet, invoices continued, and the amount increased to R4,200+.
I'm disputing the charges because MTN stopped providing services (data) months ago. I've asked them to clarify what I'm paying for, but they've failed to provide a resolution.
Furthermore, when I disputed the charges, MTN demanded a cancellation fee of R700, which I disputed given our 24-month contract. Despite this, I ended up paying R1,200 (R200 + R500 + R500) towards the cancellation fee. However, the outstanding balance continued to increase, and I'm still receiving invoices.
I've repeatedly asked MTN to provide a detailed statement explaining the charges, but they've failed to do so. Despite paying R1,200 towards a cancellation fee and disputing the outstanding balance, I've continued to receive invoices with increasing amounts. I request that MTN provide a clear breakdown of the charges and justify the amounts they're claiming I owe.
When I provided the attorneys with my cancellation reference number, they claimed it only indicated that I requested cancellation, not that the contract was actually cancelled. This contradicts what MTN initially told me. I find it misleading that they referred to it as a 'cancellation reference number' when it doesn't confirm cancellation.
I request your assistance in resolving this matter. MTN's actions seem unfair and deceptive. I'd appreciate it if you could help me:
1. Get a clear explanation for the charges 2. Cancel any outstanding debt 3. Stop further invoices
My contract details: - Contract duration: 24 months - End date: April 2023 - Reference number for cancellation: (***) Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to a resolution.
Sincerely, NOFUNDO PORTIA MAHLANGU
