*****ing R1 per day

This is definitely not the first time that this was done to someone and I'm 100% sure it won't be the last. I was subscribed to some R1 a day service that I have never heard of or even seen before, without my consent. I received a SMS to "remind" me of the subscription just after 6AM this morning.

I phoned the number provided and after holding for 25minutes spoke to someone from AIRG who informed me that I have been a subscriber for over a month now. She claimed someone used my phone if I did not do it myself.

I know for a fact that it not possible for someone to have done that because my phone is password protected and the charges would show up on the itemized billing if it was a call.

I have no doubt that either AIRG or MTN is just outright *****ing money in this way and smiling all the way to the bank.

I have apparently been unsubscribed from this service now but they have "no facility to accommodate refunds".

It remains to be seen if I have now lost R30 or if it was more.

If MTN is not responsible directly for this they then needs to stop associating with ******** institutions like this that can just ***** money this way.

What is needed for someone to actualy subscribe to something like this? Is a number enough? Is the subscriber suppose to reply to smses?

Its probably a reply "No to opt out type sms that is now taken as consent. Because I have no doubt that these ********* will work that way.

Good day Willie,

Thank you for your post.

We are terribly sorry for the inconvenience that you experienced as a result of this. We completely understand the frustration it has caused.

Kindly be advised that the system shows that the subscription with AIRG has been cancelled. Please be advised that content services are not part of MTN services, the registration of these services is completely voluntary and is activated on the handset.

Rest assured, it is not our intention to displease you. We look forward to improving on the service delivery to you.

Regards,

Ayanda

Thank you for the reply but this still does not inform me where they got concent or how MTN view it as acceptable to do business with a company that ***** money from their customers.

"the registration of these services is completely voluntary" implies that you do not believe me when I said I did not register for any such waste of money.

If anyone can or could let me know how and where I apparently subscribed to this service it would go a long way to proove that they are not just *****ing money.

Was it via a website? Did I phone them? Did I send them an sms?

It might be like some of the sms's that cost me R21 of which I apparently had 2 last month. How does that even happen? I assume it is a reply stop to opt out type of ****. There is so much wrong with this situation I barely see the point to even try and explain it to the same people who are benefitting from the helplessness of us the costomers.
