Stay AWAY from MTN South Africa

I took out a new MTN contract on the 05th July 2025 at the Cradlestone Mall MTN Store - The first cellphone contract I have had in about 20 years and decided to try MTN. On the 14th July I was contacted by their '***** Department' - who had access to ALL of my information as provided to the Cradlestone Store 9 days earlier. They told me that a person had opened a new cellphone contract on my name and needed to stop it immediately. Unfortunately, I did not realize it was a **** as they had ALL of my information and I had no reason to doubt MTN. I was subsequently ****med of R5711. I immediately called the ***** department back who confirmed the ****. I was informed that I need to call back the next morning to get a link to an APP in order to stop the ****mers having access to use my account. Almost three weeks later, over 15 calls to MTN with over 92 minutes clocked up talking to them, their promises to resolve have amounted to nothing. I sent an email to ***, received a reference number but after 11 days had no response. I rep**** again to the same email and this time got a response asking my reference numbers of SMS's received. I returned that almost immediately and 10 days later have still had NO response from their complaints line. This is the most appalling service I have ever experienced. MTN should be ashamed of themselves. How did these ****mers get access to my information???
