Stalemate
After the notorious MTN strike, the company lost a loyal 10 subscriber. I cancelled my contract, gave back the handset, and that was it.
I noticed recently that MTN had loaded a default against me when looking at my credit report. After querying this with MTN they advised that there is an amount still outstanding. When asking to see the invoice, I was advised that my account is locked, and no invoice is available for inspection. The account could not be unlocked unless the outstanding amount is settled, which I did. Legal is now saying that there is a R1727 fee applicable when opening my account again. The joke of this situation is:
1) A default was loaded against me with credit bureaus for not paying MTN
2) Nobody knew I owed money to MTN as my account had been locked, therefore no notifications/letters/calls/invoices received from MTN asking me for payment
3) Had I received a call from MTN, I would have informed them that I am not liable for any balances as I rescinded my upgrade and returned the handset well before my billing period closed
I need the following done to resolve this stalemate:
-Notify credit bureaus to remove the default from my name
-Refund the handset charge
