Spam is ****ing me and I cannot opt out!

Overall quality of the network is pretty good and the pricing is competitive, but the spam is unbearable! I receive an sms every day. Okay, perhaps 6 days a week. I have tried opting out and have spent more than an hour on the phone with the call centre who have given me different instructions to try and opt out of receiving these. I have followed all of the instructions and still I am receiving the daily sms.

Some examples of the messages: Y'ello! Break the Internet with a 7-Day 900MB Data Bundle for only R50-dial *142# & select MyDataOffers or use the MyMTN APP to buy! TCs apply. (I think they ran out of characters to add the opt-out instruction)

Y'ello, Recharge with R60 now & get 350MB data FREE, valid for 1 Day. Stay Connected with friends & family. Ts&Cs. To OptOut SMS Stop to 30246

Most of them have that same OptOut SMS Stop to 30246.

When I called the first (maybe the second) time, the person told me that SMS will work if I sent it 3 times. This does not seem like reliable advice, but I did it anyway. In fact, I sent it 5 times. And I received a few confirmations that I was now opted out.

I was not opted out so I called again. I cannot remember the order I received the instructions in, but I called the code that the call centre manager (Balungile Cele) assured me was the one code to fix it all and got the confirmation that I was now opted out. The code is *130*603#.

Still I was not opted out. She also sent me the *136*5# with the options to select but it was to block premium rated services so it had no impact.

The final instruction was to dial *121# and select option 3 and then 1. This took me to a menu where the only option was to opt in to marketing. I did this in the hope that if I opted in the menu would change to give me the option to opt out. It did not and it did not opt me out either.

Today, after another 20 minute call, she finally logged a ticket with technical support (ref SMC/ ********** 1011). I am now waiting for a call back when she receives feedback but from my recent experience I am not hopeful.

If the instruction in the SMS does not work, then it needs to change to give customers a real option to opt out. This daily SMS is all that remains after I received many more messages in the beginning. They seem intent to spam you at every opportunity.
