Sony Xperia Z3

I took a contract with MTN for the Sony Xperia Z3 ,not just because I only like the phone but as a bonus it's waterproof and dust proof, a huge bonus in my industry. In January we went on holiday and thought it would be cool to take under water photos ,as it shows in the adverts, about a day later my new phone did not want to go out of flight mode, so a day later I booked it in at MTN to send it to Sony for inspection and a week later I received an sms telling me I must pay for a repair but I didn't even know what's wrong,so I went to MTN to find out can they repair or what is happening, they gave me an answer that my phone has water damage and can not be repaired. I would like a new phone as Sony advertise it's waterproof and you can take photos underwater. And MTN expect you to pay for a phone you even don't have

Hello Phillippolus,

We do apologize for any inconvenience caused and for the delayed response.

The booking results indicate that the liquid indicator inside of the phone was triggered, meaning that there was water/moisture that penetrated the seals of the device.

Sony only guarantees that the device's seals can keep out dust and liquid up to a depth of 1.5 meters. Any device that is found to be liquid damaged is then deemed BER (Beyond Economical Repair).

The charge of R330.00 is a mandatory charge for the technician having physically worked on the device.

Right now we can only refer you to approach the manufacturer directly if you dispute that the fact that the device was not used as per specifications from the manufacturer.

Regards
Tim
