Sleazy contract wording. Be aware!

I have a current 24 months contract. Have been with MTN for > 15 years. However, I got a sms stating "As of 1 May '19, your monthly Contract subscription will be adjusted due to inflationary pressures". When I inquired about this, MTN indicated to me very formally that I must remember that I have signed that I was aware of this as stated on Clause 12: Charges of your subscriber agreement, and that I voluntarily confirm that the package option or price-plan has been explained to me and that I understand and voluntarily agree to it...... I told MTN I was forced to sign it with no option of amended, that the courier that delivered the package did not explain squat.... Nothing is what it seems anymore. When you sign for a normal 24month contract, you sign for much more. You become totally exposed to whatever MTN wants because the fact that you sign with some sleazy fine print that I thereby agree that everything have been explained to me is just bull****. It has become time to start revolting to this bullying. We should create a class action to how these bullies get clients to sign contracts and that nothing in the contract protects the client, it all just protects MTN. The fact that smartphones and connection has become an intricate part of normal day-in-the-life and the fact that no one actually have a choice to have/ or not have a phone with connection, must make that clients become protected by legislation from government.....

Conclusion: Be careful what you sign for. Never assume. Make it clear where you differ! Never trust MTN !!; MTN is never on your side. Revolt!!

Good day Marius,

Thank you for your post.

Please note that we haven’t increased our subscription prices over the past few years despite the challenging economic environment and the substantial investment that have been made to the network.
We are dedicated to offering our customer’s best quality network and service, but to continue to deliver on this, a review of subscription pricing had to be done. According to our Subscriber agreement, MTN may amend charges from time to time and notify customers in advance. Kindly see below extract  as stated on your post

 Clause 12  :Charges

You voluntarily confirm that the package option or price-plan has been explained to you and that you understand and voluntarily agree to it. You voluntarily agree to accept the charges included with each package option or price-plan (either with or without a mobile device). You must pay all the applicable charges due to us at the rates detailed on our website, your package option or price-plan terms. After any promotion ends charges will revert to the standard charges. By notifying you in advance, we may amend charges from time to time and if you do not accept them, you may end the contract by notifying us, subject to clause 15 (Termination payments).   Thank you for your patronage and continued support.
