SIM Swap Money Making Scheme

I recently signed up for a new contract, I am a first time MTN contract member and so far I am not pleased.

The sign up process was smooth, and there operator that explained the Ts and Cs was clear. However no I am really upset.

I was told during the contract sign up, that I could go into an MTN store and do a SIM swap as the new phone uses a smaller SIM card than my current one. (I was a pre-paid user before this).

When I traveled to MTN Galleria, the lady in the store advised me that a SIM swap costs R130. I asked why are you charging me and I was told that SIM swaps are only free at an MTN direct store, this is a retail store and although they do SIM swaps, they charge customers.

This is the biggest money making scheme and absolutely ridiculous excuse. MTN has a history of putting its customers last but this is an all time low. A SIM card costs less than a R1 to make, and buying a pre-paid one is about R1. However they want to charge R130 for a SIM swap and then come out with an excuse that its a different type of store?

If you are MTN, and you do SIM swaps, what is the difference between doing a SIM swap at a normal MTN store and a Direct store? The system is the same and the company is the same.

This is a money making scheme to ******* customers, the cost justification does not match what they are doing. I want MTN to sort this mess out and ultimately provide me with a smaller SIM card as currently I cannot use my new phone, due to my SIM card being too old.
