Sim not activated after a week - bad service!

I took out a contract and picked up my phone last weekend. I expected my SIM to be active within 24 hours as advised. This did not happen. I called the MTN call centre and was given a number to call to automatically activate it. This did not work…got error saying that SIM was in use already. I went back to the MTN store and was told a call was logged and would take 24 hours. 24 hours later and nothing. I called stored again and was told the same thing - apparently it was a 'recylced number' and there was an issue but it whould be sorted out within '24 hours' and I continue waiting almost a week later with no resolution. Firstly, I do not understand why it has taken so long. I do not understand why the call centre could not resolve issue and I had ot call another number. I do not understand why I have not gotten any feedback from MTN and only the shop assistant is trying. I also do not understand why I have to wait 24 hours to 'see' if to will become active...does MTN use this time to pray or do they actually make an effort to resolve issues? This is frustrating. Will MTN compensate me for my repeated calls and visits to the store at my cost? Will I get compensated for the week where I ought to have been able to use my cellphone but could not or will I get charged a full month. I will give it a day to see if MTN actually does react and if this is a once off fluke or if MTN is incompetnt - to my twitter and facebook friends that are reading this - I will give you feedback so you can make an informed opinion when your contract comes up for renewal. Specifically I will fedback on the following :

1) Weather MTN work to resolve my issue timeously.

2) Weather MTN communicates this to me effectively.

3) Will they compensate me for the week that I actually did not have service or charge me in full and expect some salesperson to appologies on their behalf and expect their 'sorry - we messed up' to be adequate.

4) Weather I return my cellphone to the store...refuse to deal with MTN and get a voidacom contract and MTN's reaction to that.

5) Weather MTN realises it is not the compious amounts of fine print in their T&C's that matter but power of social media that will effect their business.
