Sim card worked only two days after sim swap

After loosing my phone about four mothns ago, I finally decided to do a sim swap. I'm on contract with the service provider. Otherwise, I was only paying for airtime I wasn't using.

While in the store, the assistant told me I'll be paying R137 to complete the process. She told me she was giving me a three-in-one sim card. I only needed the micro sim but I took the one she gave me, without asking anyway.

It takes 2 to 24hrs before the sim card is active, they said. An hour later I inserted the sim into my phone. It was active. I made a couple of calls to inform people my old number was active.

Everything went well until the 3rd day. First I noticed I hadn't received any phone calls. When I checked my phone it displayed the message "Insert Sim". I switched my phone off, took out the battery, then the sim card. I left it for about a minute then put everything back. It displayed the same message. I tried it three times but nothing happened.

I inserted the sim I used before, it worked fine. I borrowed my sister's phone 2 check if my contract sim would work, it displayed the same problem. I finally made up my mind that I'd return the sim to the store. I had a busy week. And in that same week, I borrowed my cousin's phone to check if it would work in his phone, as I desperately wanted to make phone calls. It didn't work.

Unfortunately, I lost the current phone I was using then. Otherwise, I would have lost the sim card too if it was working. A week later I took the sim card, along with the receipt back to the store. The assistant, with attitude, asked where the phone was, I told her I didn't have it. She asked me how they'd check if my sim wasn't working, I told her that wasn't my problem. When she asked what happens when I insert the sim, I told her. With attitude again, she told me that's what she wanted to check. I ignored her attitude. I just wanted a new sim card.

She called the other lady for assistance, I noticed this was the lady who assisted me the previous week. She only realized that she's the one who assisted me after checking the receipt I provided. With a smile, she said she'll first check with head office if there wasn't any problem with my number. After the call, she told me I'd have to pay to do another sim swap as the sim card appeared to be damaged. I told I've only paid for the new sim a week ago. When I asked why would they want me to that, she told me there's nothing else they could do for me.

The lady with the attitude intervened in the conversation and held her phone up. She said she has been using her phone for years and her sim has never given her a problem. They even took out a new sim card and compared it with mine, said wherever I put my sim, it was being scracthed.

When I told her I wasn't going to pay for another sim card, she said I should come back when the manager is available at work. I asked her who else can assist when the manager isn't available, she said only the manager can assist, "that's how [they] operate". I haven't gone back to the store since.
