Selling a \waterproof\" phone which is clearly not"
When I renewed my contract mid last year I was told about the Sony Xperia Z3 and it's great water and dust proof capabilities. This was my upgrade.

Past weekend I submerged the phone in clear still water, at about 50mm depth for a full 2/3 minutes before the screen went black and the phone was dead.

I took the phone in to the Tyger Valley branch who first stated that the phone is not waterproof to which I had to prove from Sony's website that it is, they then said that if I leave the phone there for repairs it would take 5 weeks, but if I take it to the Milnerton branch it would be fixed immediately. I drove through, to which Milnerton branch said it is a 24-hour process, not immediate as mentioned to me. I booked the phone in there eventually.

I received a report back stating it is not a manufacturers fault according to MTN and that if I disagree I must contact Sony South Africa. I did that to which they just said they cannot help me at all and MTN needs to sort the matter out.

I followed the specified criteria to the dot and was waaaay within the limits of water exposure.

I am extremely upset about what happened and that no-one wants to help.

Please advise...
We are truly sorry for any inconvenience caused.
We've managed to locate the booking done for your device and the technician notes a number of issues on the device that could have led to it being exposed to water when you submerged it in water.
They noted that the device was in a poor condition, scratches & nicks and clear visible damage to your back cover. All liquid indicators have been triggered and this voids the warranty & guarantee of the device.
Any device that has been deemed water damaged cannot be repaired as the guarantee of the work cannot be determined as the PCB (main-board) will gradually start rusting etc.
