****med by MTN that now seems irreversible.
I received a call from a so-called MTN number that told me they want to do a sim-swop on my telephone and the only way to stop that was to give them the OTP number send to me via SMS. I unfortunately did that for all 3 my numbers and asked them to give me a reference number for the transactions - which I did not get. When I started to receive SMS's, I realized that I was ****med. I immediately called the MTN customer line, but only got a pre-recorded message. I then send an e-mail to their customer and ***** lines and went the next morning to the retail store in Welkom. They could not see any transactions on my account and that my limits were still at R0. They then told me that my account limit was R20000 based on my credit worthiness. They then changed it to R700 (my average account). Note that every time I spoke to MTN, I had to identify myself with questions or a code. According to MTN they could not do anything to prevent further transactions on my account and that I should not have given the ******** my OTP's. (How can that be possible!!! I was ****med and now they cannot help me to reverse that!!) They blocked my numbers for the morning and it was unblocked later that day. Later that night I received more SMS's. The SMS stated that I must phone 083135 if that is not correct - which I did immediately - just to get another pre-recorded voice. I send MTN e-mails every time that I received SMS's on my phone, but only received pre-recorded messages. When I phoned their customer services during working hours - the consultants told me that they cannot see any transactions and that I must wait for the ***** investigation to be completed. I then received an invoice (up to 26 April) on Friday 30 April that stated that R10432,17 excl. worth of data and money transfers of R173.91 excl. was bought on my account - making my end of May account R13670.67 as opposed to the normal ± R700. Heavens know how much is still to come, because MTN cannot see these transactions. I have also not received a SMS that reflected these huge transaction amounts To date MTN answered none of my questions - just told me it is my fault and I am responsible. I went to SAPS yesterday to report it as a ***** case, because I believe that the ******** must have had inside MTN information. One of the consultants said that these ******** use MTN numbers - that is why they cannot be traced. To my knowledge cell phones must be RICA'd and I have given MTN all the SMS & phone times, references, etc. that I received to enable them to trace these calls and to check who benefitted from the data transfers. Still no answers or assistance. As a MTN contract client for the past 25 years, I expected better assistance. I would like MTN to at least write the ****med amounts off and to get the ******** off my account, because I immediately reported the ****, but I got no assistance - from there the poor rating
