I am convinced that MTN sells customer phone numbers to people who send you those \You have won $350000 in Omega millions"****s.
I have had a Vodacom number for 8 years and I never get these.
I get a Tab on MTN for 4 years with a number I have never given out (because the TAB does not receive phone calls but I get spammed with these messages all the time. At least 2 a week.

I also get these messages about some points that you can win stuff which I see as a **** for me to send SMS's so I get more points. They offer an opt out but IT IS A LIE! MTN is an organization full of *****! They just want you to send SMS's so they can take your money.

This is another one of the reasons why I will not be renewing my contract with MTN. I will also inform anybody who asks my view on MTN about this. """
