Sales man continuously attempts to avoid work

A year ago, I opened a new contract with MTN directly. At that time, the salesman was marketing Samsung products an I was told that he receives a commission from both MTN and Samsung. The salesman was eager in closing the deal and went out of his way to ensure the deal was concluded.
11 months later, I visited the store and spoke to the same guy which i took my contract out with. I explained the problems that I've been having with my phone and he went on to tell me that my best option was to go to Samsung directly or alternatively purchase a new battery at my own expense. I had no means to visit Samsung in Constantia, and i thus purchased a new battery. I continued to experience the same problems with the new baterry and visited the store two weeks later. After explaining what had happened, I told him that I wish to book the phone in for repairs. He agreed but went further to tell me it could cost me an additional R330 or visit the head office I have a problem with that.
If there was a change in policy why wasn't I as the customer notified?
Additionally, I am left without a phone for a month according to the salesman(3-4weeks) & my data on my phone will soon expire.
Dissapointed
