<p>I am going to Europe for a year and want to cancel/ buy out my contract. So I call and ask what it will cost well I am told R5382 when I only pay. Contract fee of R710.08 before my discounts of R114.03 total before VAT is R596.05, now inclusive is 679.50, my contract expires on 23 May 2017, so I only have 5 more monthly charges from now so in total MTN would have gotten R3397.49 over the period maybe a bit more. BUT since I am now leaving and want out of the contract they are charging me and extra R 1984.50 and the reason is I don’t qualify for the promo discount and my handset. So if I work on the R710 over 5 months I only get R4047.00 which leaves and amount of R1335.00.</p> <p>Now I feel that is an absolute *******, as you not only get more money out of me, but you also save on the expense of the given discount which is now not being used, not to mention that I have yet to use all my sms of airtime on my package. That is the thanks I get for 10 years of loyalty to MTN</p>

We apologize for any inconvenience incurred.

Kindly be advised that the early termination fee work out for early termination is correct. The system will generated the device price that is left of the 5 months contract of the 24 months contract.

According to the system the device price left R3292.71 + 14% Vat. The current balance for the November invoice billing will be debited in December month.

The un-billed invoice is included and the discounts will only be allocated to the account once the invoice finalized.

If the invoice balance for November month returned unpaid in December you will be liable to make payment for this invoice + R11.40 for the RD fee.

The payment you need to make for the early termination fee will be R4573.00.

Hi Alice

If i work it out I would be paying R3397.49 in total till the contract ends and my November bill will be R819.50 then I would be paying R4207.00 in the end, which would still be a saving of R366 in the end and the bank fees I would pay to leave the funds in there and the debit order cost will only be about R100 so I would still be saving R266 to just let the contract run till May and submit a do not renew instruction on my account.

So on both options given to me it is better to not cancel or buy out as I do not benifit in anyway, infact I pay more to do that??
