REVIEW: MTN – A SOURCE OF FRUSTRATION AND HELPLESSNESS

I can say with absolute cer*****y that MTN is one of the worst mobile service providers in South Africa. Not only is their system down most of the time – especially when you actually need it – but they are also completely unhelpful when you try to contact them.

You can’t simply cancel a contract in one of their stores. No, you have to phone a number and go through a painfully frustrating series of options, only to eventually get through to someone who often can’t even speak your language. And once you’ve explained your issue, you're transferred yet again – this time to someone who tries to bribe you with all sorts of "offers" to stop you from cancelling your contract, even though you've clearly said over and over again that you're not interested.

As if that’s not bad enough, you’re then told that you have to pay a prorated amount before the cancellation can even begin. I called them a month ago to cancel my contract. The agent assured me it was done. Today, when I tried to apply for a new contract with a different provider, I was told MTN never cancelled it. Now I have to pay again and wait yet another month before I can get a new contract. The person who was supposed to help me did absolutely nothing.

MTN’s service is a disgrace. If you do a transfer of ownership, you can't even keep your old number. You’re forced to wait three months before applying for a new contract. Who can go without a phone for three months? And yes, you can take out a new contract sooner – but then you’ll lose your number. That’s simply unacceptable.

To make matters worse, they don’t honestly explain that you’ll be charged prorated amounts. You just get hit with a nasty surprise when two or three unexplained charges go off your bank account. No warning. No explanation. No service.

I feel completely misled, ignored, and helpless. If you're looking for frustration, mismanagement, and a complete lack of customer service – MTN is for you. For the rest of us: stay away. I've written a review in the past also regarding one of their rude staff. Had no reply or anything
