Refusal to cancel cellphone contract

I must have extremely bad luck with Cell phone providers, first Autopage then Vodacom and now MTN.

I have been trying to cancel my MTN account since 7th September 2015 where I started by submitting an email to MTN retentions ********** It was such a struggle which eventually lead me to a point where they gave me the settlement amount of R3960.22 which I paid 20 January 2016 at 09:25:11. The proof of Payment was sent to MTN at 09:55 thereafter. I received a confirmation email from the retentions department to say that they have received my Proof of Payment. I then received a call from the retentions department and the convinced me to not cancel the contract as I would lose out on the free minutes and was told to send MTN a cancellation request by May 1st which I did. I received an email from MTN stating that the cancellation amount that I paid was sufficient to cover the contract up until the cancellation date. See below email:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

From: Retentions **********
Sent: 29 January 2016 09:43 AM
To: DAVIDS, KURT
Subject: Re: cancellation [# ********** 1]

Good day David

As per our telephone conversation , please give us a call or email on the 01/05/2016 to cancel and the contract . The subscription you have paid will cover till then .

MTN Retentions

Reference Number: ********** 1

--Original Message--
From: ********** /> Date: 1/29/2016 8:13:27 AM
To: ********** /> Subject: cancellation

Good Day

Kindly migrate number to prepaid. Please speed up the process.

##########

contact the customer on the following number;

##########

Regards

---------------------------------------------------------

Up until this point, I have only been receiving emails about outstanding amounts before cancellation. Today I receive an SMS stating that I owe MTN R5067.36 before they will cancel my contract. I have also requested the email address for higher management but no response since May 26th. I refuse to pay another cent to MTN as THEY have confirmed the cancellation amount which I have already paid.

I want my account cancelled immediately and as I have requested before for the number to be converted to prepaid as I would not want to lose my number.
