Refusal to cancel account

I have sent 6 email messages since June 2017 to MTN requesting cancellation of my cellphone account. I continue to receive invoices and debit to my bank account associated with my old cell phone account which I have not used for more than 12 months. I am completely dissatisfied with the level of service! I am based overseas and have not used the MTN mobile contract number for more than 12 months. I am not able to visit an MTN branch from where I am. I have tried countless times to call MTN customer care with no response. I cannot get through the customer service number 808 or ********** from overseas. The last email response received from MTN was on 27 June as follows: From: Customer Care ********** Sent: Tuesday, June 27, 2017 4:59 AM Subject: RE: Account Cancellation [# ********** 2] Good day Mr. Mabitsela Thank you for emailing Customer Care. Kindly be advised the request has been escalated to our Retentions Department for further assistance. We thank you for patience, co-operation and continued support. Kind Regards, Chanel Koopman Customer Services MTN SA You can now text your query to us! Simply SMS 44303 Reference Number: ********** 2

I have since sent multiple follow-up emails to check the status with no response to date! I have been a loyal contract subscriber to for the past 16. It is sad that a simple request to cancel an inactive account could be so frustrating. I will be blocking MTN from making any further debits to my bank account associated with the cellphone account!
