Recycled my number without informing me

MTN recycled the number I was using for a GPS tracker so I no longer have communication with it. I called them and they say they cant see any issue on their side. I had GPRS communication with the device a month ago so it cant be due to inactivity of 3 months. I decided to call the number and it rang like it always did so I assumed the number was still active but was quite surprised when my GPS tracking unit phoned me back and a very nice lady explained she was issued this number recently when buying a prepaid device.

I will have to recall all devices from the field to replace all the mtn sims. Worst thing is that airtime was loaded onto this number which mtn is reflecting but cannot be used and will expire soon meaning mtn pocket this money without me being able to use their service at all. Nowhere on the online portal does it even state that the number has been reassigned and according to the online portal the number still belongs to me.

MTN please explain to me how I will be reimbursed for the money spent as you are not able to provide a service.

No feedback in a month after providing the requested info. Have managed to recall all units and MTN sims went into the dustbin. Please learn from this and stay clear from MTN for IoT applications.
