Recycled cellphone number causing stress
I bought a new SIM card on 17 February and almost immediately I started receiving sms from fnb and other companies demanding that outstanding debt is paid. There have also been many calls to this number wanting to speak to the previous owner. This is obviously a recycled cell number and I don’t see why I should be harassed like this because the previous owner of this cellphone number owes everyone in the country money!! Surely as a law abiding citizen, who in good faith bought a SIM card from a service provider, I should not have to deal with this ? As I’m writing this I’ve just taken a call from African Bank looking for the man who had this number. Enough is enough!

Thank you for your post. We are terribly sorry for the inconveniences that you experienced as a result of this. We completely understand the frustration it causes. MTN's access for life policy states that if a number does not make one chargeable call at least once every 90 days, that number will be disconnected and recycled. It is unfortunate that you are being harassed by creditors you have never done any business with and unfortunately we also do not have control or access to avoid that from happening.
Rest assured, it is not our intention to displease you. We look forward to improving on the service delivery to you.

27 Mar 2019, 15:34It looks as though I only have bad luck with mtn sim cards. I bought a replacement sim because I could no longer take all the calls and sms and when I tried to use it it would not work. After contacting mtn from another phone because I could not even use the phone to call mtn, I was asked where did I buy it from. I rep**** jet stores and was then told that their stock is old and that I would have to go and buy another one from an mtn store. How can stores be allowed to sell old, non-working stock to customers? Why is old stock not withdrawn and recalled? So now I have to go buy and Rica a third sim card for the same phone. This is totally unaccetable. I have also written a review for jet stores because of this.
