RECENTLY PURCHASED SIM WITH AN ACTIVE WHAT'S UP A

I purchased a sim card on the 20 July 2015 from PEP stores in Fourways. I realised that the number had an active what's up account. I called Prepaid Device call centre to report the matter. My query was allocated to Somandla Majola. He explained that if a number has not been used for 90 days the service provider recycle it and unfortunately the service provider does not have control over what's up account. He advised me to go and purchase another starter pack. My question was, what guarantee does he provide that I will not get a number with the same issue. His response was that I should only go and purchase it from MTN store only and not from the distributors. I was shocked to learn that there is a possibility of purchasing an inferior product from from MTN distributors.

Also the expectation that as a customer must just accept to purchase another starter pack is a complete waste of time, money and disrespect to the customer.

As well it should not be a customer responsibility to address issues like these with outside companies like Whats up. The service provider must ensure that these are resolved before the starter packs go to the market

Hello pantshn,

Thank you for your post.

We are terribly sorry for the inconveniences that you experienced as a result of this. We completely understand the frustration it caused.

Kindly be advised that as per the Access For Life policy, if the customer does not make a chargeable call for 90 days, the number gets deactivated and recycled. The MTN distributors do not sell inferior products and MTN can not guarantee that the new sim card purchased from the store will not be a recycled sim card.

Rest assured, it is not our intention to displease you. We look forward to improving on the service delivery to you.

Regards,
Ayanda
