Prepaid Sim Swap Horror

I port my number on the 7th of September 2016 from MTN to Cell because my data bundles kept disappearing. I then Asked for Cell C to reverse the port when I discovered I can’t roam on a prepaid plan. The reversal was done on the 24th of September, and I had to fly out of the country on the 25th. I lost my previous MTN simcard, but bought an MTN simcard before leaving South Africa and my partner bought a second one. Both were RICA’d. I left both Sim cards and my phone with my partner. He will post these as soon as the sim swap is done.

I called MTN customer services and requested for a sim swap, and they insist that I have to call from the new sim card. This is not possible as I’m out of the country and I might be out for more than 3 months, this means I will lose my number.

I asked the call centre consultant to please allow my partner to do the sim swap on my behalf, and I would give him all the sim swap answers. I even asked to speak to the manager who refused to talk to me. They refused to assist in this way and then referred me to the MTN branches.

My partner has been to most MTN Branches in Pretoria and I have been calling the ones in Johannesburg, and none are willing to assist him without an Affidavit from me with certified copies of my Identity documents. Him and I explained that I am not able to access Affidavits and certification facilities where I am. I wrote and signed a letter giving my partner authority over my sim swap with scanned copies of my Passport, SA Driver’s license and ID book, and he has an affidavit explaining my situation, but no one is willing to help or listen.

I further asked if I can send an indemnity letter for this number , but no one will listen.

I understand that all these processes are meant to protect me from *****, but I’m in a desperate situation. My case should be treated differently as I am out of the country and I don’t want to lose my number while something can be done about it.

Management please intervene

I noticed MTN has responded to other complaints that were sent after mine. Does this mean that you ill not respond to assist?
