Poor MTN network Mooi River
On the 8 February 2026 i decided to engage with MTN on Facebook as i had been experiencing network issues in the evenings. I was somewhat assisted as they needed my location which i could not provide. I forgot about the issue thinking it's probably a glitch all systems will be back but during this time between 6pm no network till i go to sleep.
On the 11 of March decided to call the covarage department and the agent notified me that the tower is faulty. I sent an email the next day and they asked for the coordinates of the area. I'm on contract paying R297 in March and R300 some change in April. Last week i called and a Sizwe promised to get back to me when they have the answers as to when will the issue be fixed but did not. Today 23 March i called again because I'm sick and tired of paying for a service i cannot fully enjoy at all. The agent stated that the tower has no issues and between 5 and 9 pm there's high traffic and that it was recommended that they must provide split sectors to accommodate us all.
When asked when will these sectors be done no one seems to have an answer. My questions were:
What was the recommendation for contract clients who are paying a fixed monthly amount, what are we supposed to do in the meantime while they ponder on the idea of fixing the issue? Is it fair to me as a paying customer to continue pay for a service which i can't fully enjoy? The problem is not new as from January 2026 till now does MTN at all care or value it's customers? The option to Canceling the contract since it's not fully used at no cost to me since I'm not at fault. Prorated data charge from January 2026 till the problem is solved, i wanna pay for the Gigabytes i used while they were experiencing problems and choosing not to adress them. A refund of the outstanding amounts since i did not use all 80G data.
