I was a very long standing customer of MTN, having purchased my first phone in 1996. Last year I migrated to their competition but left my wifes pay as you go contract with them. all contracts i had with them have expired more than a year ago. yet there has always been debits going through my accounts. I called their customer service number to cancel the contracts, their menu to "press 1;2;3;4;5;6;7 etc" has an option to cancel contract, however, select the appropriate number and you are placed on hold for so long that you eventually give up. I tried on a number of occassions with no luck, at one point leaving the call connected for 45 minutes! I then visited their store where I live to get some assistance, they refused to assist me in any way stating that I can only go through the call centre. Well, I tried another tack, I pressed the link for "New business", immediately I got through to a consultant, who promptly told me that she could not assist me and said she would transfer me to the cancellations department. True to form, no one picked up the call. I then placed a stop payment on all MTN debits through my account. I received no calls from MTN when they received no payment from me. Suddenly about a month ago I started receiving calls from a debt collecting company. MTN, WHY DO YOU HAND OVER BEFORE ENGAGING WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS DIRECTLY. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF YOUR ACTIONS? I challenge you to call me. because I owe you nothing.
