Policy conquers all

My mother-in-law passed away on the 27 March so we kept her phone in case people phoned. I checked the balance at R258 so we decided to keep the phone as a backup. We tried to test it in July and the sim card does not register, MTN had 'recovered' the sim card as it had not been used for 3 months. When I inquired about the balance, I was told it was zero and 'POLICY' is to recover sims that have not been used. When I top up my phone I get a splattering of sms messages regards special cell offers but MTN cannot send out a single message to inform you that your means of communication will terminate due to their policy. How many people are aware of this policy that cancels your communications and makes your balance zero ? I am still waiting for my refund !

Good day Colin,

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns and affording us the opportunity to address the same. Kindly accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Kindly note that if a number is not used in 3 months, it is automatically switched off and recycled for a further 3 months after being issued to another subscriber. MTN is constantly requesting for number ranges. In order to eliminate this process, numbers that are not being used are then recycled.

Kind regards,

Ishie.

Complaints Management Team.

Best regards,

CT
