PLEASE HELP - This is a security breach !!!!!!!1
I have been a MTN client for the past 10 years. The number in question is ***. This has been the number I have been using for the past 10 years. It has always been on contract. In 2017 it was transferred onto a business account with a company called Stangen. In 2019 the contract was settled and my number was moved back to pre-paid. On Saturday the 29th February 2020 I received free minutes and data. I knew this was a mistake and assumed MTN would rectify the matter. However on Monday the 2nd March 2020 @14:15 my phone had no network and it stated "SIM not on Network". At this point I panicked because my phone is used to communicate daily at work and navigate my personal life. I called MTN and spoke to Phindile Mgwaba in the contracts department. She informed that my number has been recycled as it was not being used. This is impossible because i load data and airtime weekly. My bank statement shows that I have purchased R31 863 worth of airtime over the past 3 years. My last purchase was airtime on the 29th February 2020. My number is now not working with my SIM. It has been 3 days and my number has still not been reinstated. I have been emotionally distracted because I am very worried about the security risk of my number being with someone else. ALL my personal accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) are linked to that number. ALL my banking accounts and business runs and operated from that number. I am very concerned about how RICA and MTN are protecting me as a consumer. This is clearly a security breach of privacy and could place me at risk for any ********** activity. I have logged a formal complaint with ICASA as well because I have not seen any urgency from MTN in sorting this out.
