Paying for a Contract That Was *****ulently Opened For Me
In August 2024 I took a month to month router with MTN, due to billing issues with them I decided to stop using it and my account was sitting on R0 however i had not returned the router nor terminated the contract with MTN. In January 2025 I receive a call from a MTNs third party provider (Summer Mobile) offering me an upgrade on this. I bluntly refused, but to my surprise I received an email with a contract and sms congratulating me for my upgrade. I reported this to the MTN ***** department, then later that week I received a call from Summer mobile asking me to get an affidavit and certify ID copies for them to access the call recordings. I did that and summer mobile called me to confirm that their consultant had upgraded my contract without my consent. They now asked me to terminate the contract with MTN, and get a statement so that they could refund me for any costs incurred by me. That week I returned my router to MTN and I was told to pay a cancellation fee. I informed summer mobile about this and they asked me for a formal document for them to pay this money to me. However MTN said that they could not print out nor email me a document like that. I went back and forth trying to get a resolution for this until one lady from MTN suggested that she could email me a screenshot of this. I sent this to Summer Mobile but they refused to use that as well because this screenshot only showed my contract number and the cancellation fee but not personal details such as my name, surname or id number. Last week I called MTN again to try and resolve this only to be told that my contract had been cancelled without a cancellation fee. Now the issue I'm sitting with is that I also have another contract with MTN for a data plan R159 per month. That account has a debit order mandate but normally as soon as I receive my salary I pay it via the MTN App manually before the debit order date. In January 2025 I manually paid R160 and in February 2025 R159. But to my surprise on the 28th of February I got 2 debit orders on my account, one for R318 and another for R324. I called MTN and the consultant told me that all the amounts were allocated to the router including the manual payments. Now I'm calling to ask MTN to allocate these amounts correctly and give me a refund for the rest but they are sending me back to summer mobile. The MTN consultant also advised that my data plan is sitting 3 months in arrears and that a debit order for that will go off on my account at the end of March 2025. I am devastated and don't know what to do because no one is willing to help me with this case. Instead I'm being sent back and forth for something I did not do nor consent.
