Pay as you go - International roaming

My girlfriend is currently in Portugal.<br> Before she left we got her a Pre-Paid sim from MTN, the reasoning was that overspending will be curbed and furthermore we were informed by MTN that all pre paid sims are enabled for International Roaming. <br> <br> Regardless, we asked MTN to test or confirm the functionality to make sure that it will work. The last thing I wanted was for her to have to struggle on that side to get hold of the correct people.<br> <br> We were informed that it cannot be tested, but will definitely work. Just for interest sake we were able to call people in Portugal with this specific sim from South Africa.<br> <br> Well, now that she is actually in Portugal, she can receive calls and sms' s and even send sms's, but outgoing calls are not allowed. The prompt on the line states to contact you service provider.<br> <br> So I contacted MTN, and were informed that there is nothing that they can do to fix it, the sim will have to first return to South Africa for them to be able to do anything.<br> <br> I cannot believe that it is impossible to resolve this problem.<br> MTN, could you please, please help with this problem?
