Pathetic service
I purchased a pay-as-you-go router from MTN — specifically because it is not a contract product and should only incur costs when used. Unfortunately, the router did not work for me, so I stopped using it completely. I even took it back to the store in an attempt to return it, but I was told I could not return it because I no longer had the box and an additional cable.
Since then, I have not used the router at all. Despite this, I am now receiving constant calls from a debt collection agency claiming that I owe MTN R17,000 — and then later changing the amount to R16,000.
I do not understand how this amount has accrued on a pay-as-you-go device which was R259 a month that has not been used. This is misleading and feels like harassment. I have explained my situation to the debt collectors, but they keep calling and threatening me for an amount I do not owe.
I request the following immediately: 1. A full explanation of how this so-called debt was calculated. 2. Proof that this router generated charges and when exactly these charges occurred. 3. A written statement confirming whether there is or ever was a contract linked to this router. 4. Immediate cancellation of this incorrect debt and all collection activities against my name.
I am extremely disappointed and frustrated by this experience. If I do not receive a satisfactory response within 7 days, I will escalate this to ICASA, the National Consumer Commission, and seek legal advice.
