Packet Switched Data Calls

My contract was previously with Nashua Mobile and was carried over to MTN at the end of 2014 due to the closure of Nashua Mobile. I have been a satisfied customer until July 2015 paying exactly the same every month for the first 19 months of my MTN200 contract, being R678.00 per month on then a slightly reduced account of R629.30. My contract includes 1 GB recurring hybrid and insurance. In 19 months, I never exceeded my usage and if my data depleted, I topped it up by purchasing this via internet banking.

In July, for the first time, there was additional charges on my billing, Short Message, Charges and Packet Switched Data Calls totaling 362.72 extra on my bill. In August, a total of R1 682.27 extra to my bill.September was minimal and October again an additional R376.43.

When approaching MTN multiple times, I keep getting told, it is valid data which is both frustrating and incorrect as I have wifi during the day and only use my minimally during the evenings and weekends.

I am being ****** blind and my next step is the Ombudsman as this is definitely not right and as a single mom, you are destroying my livelihood with my son. Please MTN, stand up and pay proper attention!

Hello TiaRoh75,

Thank you for your post.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced with our service.

We do pick up that the account usage has been monitored until May month, then from July month the SIM card has been used for extra data usage. Since June month the subscription fee has increased. In August month the account has been billed for extra calls and data usage. The account has been billed for extra SMS as well.

The bill limit previously set up on the account is not accurate and the account need to be monitored for the usage. The bill limit has been removed. The account is on an open package. As per the billing department the charges are valid.

Kind Regards,

Alice van der Merwe
